Fix operation cancelled due to restrictions

Microsoft outlook 2003, personal information manager comes bundled with number of features such as calendar, contact manager, note taking, task manager & others though is mainly used as e-mail application. All outlook accessible data is contained in a single PST personal folder which further comprises of several folder for saving sent & received emails and likewise for all other items.

Other than this, in instances Microsoft Internet Explorer is upgraded to a newer version, however the subsequent registry changes could not be made, the application may continue to throw fatal error. This is so as the corresponding registry key i.e. - HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Classes\htmlfile\shell\open\command is missing or is corrupt.

 

How to fix error ‘this operation has been cancelled due to restrictions'?

To get rid of the error, Internet Explorer Web settings need to be reset, following section describes the steps to do so, however variation in steps could be seen with difference in Internet Explorer version –

• Open Internet explorer
• From Tools menu, click internet options
• Go to programs tab and then select the option ‘reset web settings'
• From ‘internet programs' check whether the correct e-mail program is specified
• Select the check box ‘internet explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser'
• Apply and ok to confirm changes

If the above steps do not work or the error persists the way it was registry editing is required and this requires skilled technicalities otherwise serious damaged and may occur. Other than that you may also import registry entries from another computer with similar settings to get rid of operation has been cancelled error.

This way the problem while opening link in outlook 2007, 2003 and 2002 could easily be resolved & other tasks could be facilitated smoothly.
