Fix Can't create file

Outlook is the most commonly used email application and so common is the issue received by the users of outlook while carrying out different tasks. These ultimately would either damage the file or make it corrupt & arise issues with its usage. One such instance is that of error messages generated by outlook at the time of trying to open email attachments. Another such situation may be that of saving emails, which does not happen as required & gives error message as –

“ Cannot create file: file name. Right –click the folder you want to create the file in and click properties on the shortcut menu to check your permission for the folder. ”

When outlook experiences problem in accessing temporary files it is linked to. Can t create file errors are most likely to be generated. Having insufficient access permission or storage of temporary internet file folder on server may lead to number of unknown error in outlook.

Whenever emails are opened in outlook, its cached copy in created in outlook temporary OLK folder. The attachment files have different names, accounting to each user. The list of cached attachments are not cleared itself and may reach high number may be around 100. The long file names does not allow further increase in size of temporary cache, leading to failure of file creation and therefore the error can t create file outlook 2003, 2007 and other version is generated for this very reason.

 

Here in this situation, it is required to delete files with the same attachment file or number from outlook OLK folder also called as outlookSecureTempFolder.

Besides this setting another folder for temporary files would also solve the issues recurrently taking place in outlook. For this a new folder say temp0 should be created first in C drive. After this, follow the steps mentioned –

• Start -> Run -> enter regedit and OK
• Locate the entry – HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\Microsoft\office\11.0\outlook\security from registry
• Double click OutlookSecureTempFolder shown on the right pane
• Enter C:\temp0 in Value data field and OK to confirm changes and then exit.

After a restart the changes would take place and problem as cannot create file outlook 2003 attachment would be resolved.

Other than the above specified causes of cannot create the file error, corrupt application or damaged PST files could also be responsible for it. In those cases, applying the above fixes would not result in solving the error and therefore Outlook 2003 repair is recommended to be done with advanced repair tool designed for the purpose.
